Remember, you cannot spot reduce so if you have excess fat in the area, the core exercises will only tighten the muscles in your abdomen possibly reducing the circumference of your waist in the process.

Since your stomach muscles were jus stretched out during your pregnancy, core exercises should immediately help to bring the normal tension to your abdominal muscles.

body fat measurement accumeasureThe excess body fat is sub-cutaneous (under the skin) and can be measured with a simple Accu-Measure skinfold caliper, used for estimating your body fat.

Knowing your body fat percentage is important because it will tell you if your exercise program is accomplishing the desired results.

How long it will take to tone your entire body including your mid-section will be determined by your body fat percentage and your exercise program.

You should start an exercise program which includes 30 minutes of continuous aerobic activity such as walking 3-4 days a week at the very minimum. Resistance training in addition to the core exercises is always helpful to stimulate your metabolism to help you burn body fat and tone up.

Most important is probably your diet. Make sure you consume a healthy, balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats such as small amounts of seeds, nuts, and fatty fish.
