Breastfeeding Body Composition

Age:  26
Weight:  120lbs.
Body fat:  28%
Exercise:  20-40 min per day

I am currently breastfeeding and wondered what a good weight and body fat would be to maintain healthy after just having a baby who is now 4 months old?

If you check out the guidelines for body fat percentage in women you will see that for your age you fall in the average category.

This is a healthy body composition and your weight sounds healthy also.  If you exercise 20-40 minutes a day you should easily be able to maintain or lower your body fat percentage.

As long as your body composition is in the healthy ranges and you feel comfortable, it is up to your preference how lean you would like to get.

Experts recommend slow and steady weight loss for breastfeeding women so if you want to lower your body fat percentage, make sure you take a slow and steady approach.

While you are breastfeeding any level of body fat is healthy provided it does not interfere with your breastfeeding.  Most lactating women will need to consume about 500 additional calories above their normal pre-pregnancy food intake.
